Description

Just in on trade from one of my best customers is this lovely little Martin 00-18 12 fret built in the Martin Custom Shop in 2017. Based on Martin's early 30's design, this guitar is small in stature but big on tone. This particular example was custom-ordered with a 1-11/16" nut for players with smaller hands, or those who play electrics a great deal and prefer a narrower nut width on their acoustics as well.

This is a 00-sized, short scale instrument with 12 frets free of the body. Other specs on this little beauty include: a Sitka Spruce top with Martin's optional VTS (Vintage Tone System) torrefaction process; scalloped 1/4" Adirondack Spruce Golden Era bracing; Mahogany for the back and sides; simple vintage style ornamentation; a quartersawn Mahogany neck with Martin's Low Profile neck shape; an Ebony fretboard with a 1-11/16" bone nut; an Ebony pyramid bridge; a bone, drop-in saddle; 2-1/8" string spacing; a slotted headstock; and side-mounted and aged brass tuners. The finish on the body is gloss with a satin finish on the neck.

This instrument is simple in it's ornamentation, but still quite elegant to play and to behold. It plays divinely and is currently setup with .12 gauge phosphor bronze strings and 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high side. The truss rod moves smoothly, so the action can be adjusted easily should you prefer a higher or lower string height. The tone is that of a pre-war Martin; warm, woody and sweet. Please check out the brief sound sample provided and I think you will agree.

The original owner of this guitar is a regular customer and she takes meticulate care of her instruments. Other than some very light pick haze on the pickguard, this guitar shows little evidence of play and the frets show little to no wear as well. It comes in it's original Geib style Martin case, also in superb condition.

A similar guitar ordered new will cost you about $3,300 but this little beauty can be had for a cool grand less. Winter is upon us, so get yourself sweet little couch companion to snuggle with in front of the fire. You will be very glad you did!
