Description

Small, 12-fret, short-scale instruments are among our favorite acoustics here at Capital Guitars and we buy what we like for our inventory. We have two of these Martin guitars in stock right now, in sequential serial numbers, number 1745516 and 1745517. I'm told these guitars were part of a short run produced in 2013 for a west coast Martin dealer and that they sold out fast. Both have identical specifications, although this example (number 1745516) has a slightly darker, more vintage looking top. That aside, these guitars are virtually identical in look, feel, playability, tone and condition. Both are in near new condition and are among the finest small bodied Martins you are likely to come across.

Offered here is Martin Custom Shop 00-42 number 1745516. This short scale (24.9") beauty utilizes full hide glue construction. It has an Adirondack Spruce top matched up with 1/4" scalloped Adirondack Spruce bracing. The back and sides are made from a gorgeous set of very straight-grained Madagascar Rosewood. The body binding is flamed Koa with Style 45 purfling. The top is highly decorated with a Style 45 abalone rosette and Style 42 pearl inlays. The 12-fret, modified low oval-shaped neck is made of Mahogany. The Black Ebony fretboard is bound with mitered Koa, has a 16" radius, Style 45 abalone snowflake inlays and a 1.75" bone nut. It has an Ebony belly bridge with 2-1/4" spacing, a compensated bone saddle and Abalone snowflake inlays. The slotted headstock has a Madagascar Rosewood overlay, is bound in Koa and the tuners are gold Waverly's. The guitar is fully finished in clear gloss and is drop-dead gorgeous!

This guitar's beauty is not just skin deep, however. It plays with superb ease and is setup with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side. As the provided sound sample demonstrates, the tone is vintage Martin. Even though the guitar has yet to be broken in, the tone is rich and woody with lots of note to note clarity and midrange punch. While meant for fingerstyle, you can really dig-in with a flat pick if you like. Either way, the output of this little beauty will amaze you.

This guitar has seen very little play and is in near mint condition with only the slightest evidence of play and handling. The frets show no observable wear. It comes with it's similarly clean Martin case along with the uninstalled bone end pin and detailed build specifications provided by Martin.

Martin Customer Service tells me that commissioning a guitar with these specs will cost approximately $10K today. Get this near mint 2013 example for thousands less. Make this little beauty yours!
