If you have a soft spot in your heart for small bodied Martins with lots of cosmetic bling and in next to new condition, then the instrument offered here should appeal to you, as it does to me. Offered here is Martin Custom 00-42 built in 2014 and in near mint condition.
This is a short scale (24.9"), 12-fret, 00-sized guitar which is roughly based on Martin's 00-28VS model, but with significant Custom Shop modifications. It has a lovely Engelmann Spruce top matched up with 1/4" scalloped bracing. The back and sides are made from a gorgeous set of very straight-grained Madagascar Rosewood. The body, neck and headstock are bound with grained ivoroid. It has fancy, Style 42 top pearl trim along with a five-piece Style 45 abalone rosette. It has a 12-fret, Mahogany, Modified V-shaped neck. The Black Ebony fretboard has a 16" radius, G-300 fret wire, Style 42 abalone snowflake inlays and a 1.75" bone nut. It has a Black Ebony pyramid-style bridge with 2-1/4" spacing and a drop-in long bone saddle. The slotted headstock has a Madagascar Rosewood overlay with ivoroid binding and the tuners are engraved side-mount Waverly's. The guitar's body is fully finished in clear gloss with no aging toner and the neck is finished in clear satin.
While lovely to look at, this guitar's beauty is not just skin deep. It plays with superb ease and was recently inspected and setup by Gruhn Guitars with Elixir light strings and 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side with just a wisper of neck relief. As the provided sound sample demonstrates, the tone is vintage Martin. Even though the guitar has yet to be broken in to any significant extent, the tone is rich and woody with lots of note to note clarity and midrange punch. It was designed for fingerstyle play, you can really dig-in with a flat pick if you like. Either way, the output of this little beauty will amaze you.
This guitar has seen very little to no play and is in mint/near mint condition and the frets show no observable wear. It comes with it's similarly clean Martin Geib-style case along with the detailed build specifications provided by Martin.
Commissioning a guitar with these specs today will cost approximately $9K and a significant wait. Get this near mint 2014 example for thousands less and you can take it home today. Make this fabulous little beauty yours!
