This is the second Martin 00-42SC John Mayer model that I have had in stock in recent months. Namesake instrument or not, this is one fabulous Martin guitar. Built in 2016, this little beauty is in unplayed and virtually mint condition.
The 00-42 Stage Coach is of course an 00 size, 12 fret, short scale guitar. It has a Sitka Spruce top and the back, sides and headstock overlay are made from very straight-grained Cocobolo. The fingerboard and bridge are made of black Ebony. It has been given highly ornate cosmetics, with grained ivoroid binding covering all the edges, fancy multi-color abalone inlays on the body and fretboard and gold engraved side-mounted tuners with ivoroid buttons. It has Martin's Modified V neck shape, the nut width is 1-7/8" and the string spacing at the saddle is 2-5/16". The interior label is signed by John Mayer. The guitar is fully finished in clear gloss and is drop-dead gorgeous!
This guitar is far more than beautiful, however and it plays and sounds as good as it looks. Whether you play with fingers or flat pick, the tone is sumptuous and sweet and the projection amazing for such a small instrument. Listen to the provided sound sample of this very guitar and I think you too will be amazed by the voice of this guitar. It is set up for super easy playability with 12th fret string heights of 4/64" and 6/64" on the low and high E sides, respectively. I typically choose a nut width of 1-3/4" but I found this guitar particularly easy to play and I love the relatively sharp V-shape of the neck. This is one marvelous Martin.
As I mentioned at the outset, this guitar appears to have been purchased and put away unplayed until I purchased it for our inventory. It even had the original Martin SP strings installed and the end pin remained uninstalled. It is in "as new" condition with virtually no flaws and the frets are spotless. It comes in it's similarly mint Martin Custom Shop case with the embroidered shroud and hang tags.
This guitar lists for over $10K and regularly sells new for approximately $8.5K. Get this flawless beauty for a cool $1,500 less! This is one awesome little Martin. Make it yours!
