Description

In the midst of the worst of the 2020-2021 Covid pandemic, Martin Guitars came across a small supply of highly figured East Indian rosewood which they opted to refer to as "Wild Grain" East Indian rosewood. This limited supply was used for a variety of Martin Custom Shop guitars that were built during this period. Offered here is a superb 000 guitar from that limited run of instruments and still in 'as new' condition.

This is a 14-fret, 000/OM-sized instrument with a 24.9" string scale. It has an Adirondack spruce top with 5/16" scalloped Adirondack spruce 'X' bracing, a 45-style abalone rosette, herringbone purfling, antique white boltaron binding and a gloss finish with just a touch of aging toner.

The fabulous set used for the back and sides was made of highly figured 'Wild Grain' East Indian rosewood that could easily pass for Madagascar or even Brazilian rosewood. The back has HD zig zag purfling and a boltaron end piece.

The quarter-sawn mahogany neck has a gloss finish and has been given Martin's 'Modified V' neck shape with a 'High Performance' taper. It has a black ebony fretboard with a 16" radius, a 1-3/4" bone nut and fancy 'Alternate Torch' abalone inlays.

It has a solid square headstock with volute, a 'Wild Grain" EIR overlay and a MOP logo inlay. The tuners are gold Schallers with butterbean buttons.

The modern ebony belly bridge offers a drop-in compensated bone saddle with 2-1/4" string spacing and 'Alternate Torch' paua inlays.

This guitar is a breeze to play with is short scale length and a great setup with Elixir phosphor bronze light gauge strings and 9th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side. The tone is full, balanced and clear. You can play it fingerstyle or flat pick it and it is very responsive to either. Listen to the provided sound sample and I hope you will agree that this guitar has that great warm, clear voice that Martin guitars have long been known for. The lovely figured rosewood back and sides are simply icing on the Martin cake!

Built at the end of 2020 this guitar could likely pass for new and shows no flaws of any significance. The frets show no observable wear. It comes in it's original Geib-style case, also in near mint condition, along with the uninstalled end pin, the detailed spec sheet and the other original paperwork.

Martin's supply of this lovely 'Wild Grain' rosewood is gone now, but this guitar would have cost you approximately $6.5K if purchased new back in 2020. Get this superb and virtually mint example for a substantial discount versus new. A marvelous and "like new" Martin 000/OM short scale guitar at a great price. Make it yours today!
