Description

Offered for sale is Martin Custom OMC-28M Laurence Juber number 20 of the 250 or so that were built starting in 2005. Let me start off by saying that this is one of the nicest sounding Martin OM-sized guitars that I have played in a long, long time!

This instrument is a 25.4" scale, 14 fret 000-sized guitar with a Venetian cutaway. It has a high quality Adirondack Spruce top with the back and sides made of straight-grained Madagascar Rosewood of a quality that you don't see often any more. The top is supported with 1/4" scalloped X-bracing. The Spanish Cedar neck is Martin's Modified V shape with diamond shaped volute and white side dots. It has a black Ebony fret board with no inlays and a 1.75" bone nut. It has a black Ebony belly bridge with a bone drop-in saddle and 2-1/4" string spacing. The truss rod is a two-way design. The headstock is is a solid square shape with a Madagascar Rosewood overlay and the old style Martin logo decal. The tuners are Waverly nickel W-16 models. The guitar is modestly decorated with a fine herringbone top inlay, black and white back inlays, grained ivoroid binding and heel cap, an HD28 zig zag style back strip and a Golden Era style 28 wood fiber rosette. It has a polished lacquer finish with a touch of aging toner on the top.

I was immediately struck by the great resonance of this particular guitar. Just tap it and it rings out begging you to play it. The tone, dare I say, is magnificent. Martin gave this instrument great woods and it shows in the tone. It has a beautifully-balanced tone with great mids and lots of punch. Check out my brief sound sample and I hope you can hear how good this guitar is, despite my lousy technique. It is setup nicely with just a tiny amount of relief and 12th fret string heights of 5.5/64" on the low side and 4/64" on the treble side.

Built in the first year of this model's limited production run, this example has been treated with great care. About the only "flaw" is the very faint outline of a thin clear vinyl pickguard that was on the guitar until I removed it in order to buff out the finish. You can't feel it and you cannot see it except in the just the right lighting (see photo). Otherwise this guitar is in excellent plus condition, frets included. It comes in it's original Geib style #533 case, also in superb condition

I am fortunate to get to play a lot of great acoustics, including a lot of great Martins. This one is special. Make it yours....
