Here’s a great looking mid 1960’s Martin D-18 with just the right amount of playwear and some serious vintage tone and feel. The guitar has had its neck reset and its frets replaced in the past and plays beautifully with a standard 5-6 64ths action setup. It’s in very good structural shape, with only a few very small side cracks on the ‘hits against it’ list. No top or back cracks; original bridge and reglued pickguard; original nut; replacement vintage style tuners; and a K&K pickup added for good measure. Under the hood the guitar looks perfect, with original bridgeplate and braces all in top shape. There’s some minor chipping by the tortoise-celluloid endgraft at the bottom of the guitar that’s easy to forget about, and a strap button added to the heel of the neck.

The guitar has a compact and fast playing neck feel with a rounded carve and a nut width of 1-11/16”.

Sitka and mahogany, rosewood board and bridge, tortoise celluloid bindings and pickguard. Apart from the drop-in saddle style bridge, a 1965 D-18 is pretty much the same guitar as those built from the late 1940’s through to 1965. Shortly thereafter, Martin changed their trim to black, the bridgeplate became larger, and the neck reinforcement changed to the less desirable hollow square tube. This guitar has the earlier 1960’s tone as such, and is a great flat-picker. Lots of clarity, mid-range D-18 sweetness, and fundamental presence.
