1967 Martin D-18 SN. 223681

This fine old D-18 has just had the following work done to make it ready for a new home (all work completed at Kovacik Guitars): neck reset, refret, new pickguard, bridge reglue, new nut and a general clean up inside and out. There is an old binding re-glue repair on the bass side/back that was done prior to the guitar coming in to my shop, I've photographed that repair, see pics. Though the guitar shows some wear from having been played for the last 54 years by the original owner, it is entirely crack free. With the exception of the new pickguard, new nut and one tuner that is replaced with a period correct Grover rotomatic, the guitar is original inside and out. All interior bracing is secure and original, including the original small maple bridge plate. The heel has never been drilled for a strap pin. As I mentioned, the finish does show some wear from having been handled and played...there are some scuffs and dings on the top, back and sides including an area of belt buckle rash on the back about the size of a half dollar coin. The finish on the body (particularly the top) also shows fine crazing that is typical of lacquer of this age. The neck finish is worn down in the 1st position up to about the 5th fret. The fret board shows some moderate wear in the board, not severe, I left it when the refret was done, could be filled if the next owner prefers. The neck angle is perfect and the neck is straight under tension and the top flat, no significant top belly and no bridge rotation. The action is set at 7/64" at the low E and 5/64" at the high E at the 12th fret with a solid 1/8" of saddle showing to allow for adjustability and strong break angle. The guitar plays great for flat picking or fingerstyle. Typical strong and balanced voice, woody and crisp with excellent volume, sustain and intonation. Sound file coming soon. Comes with the original hardshell case. $3500
