1974 Martin D-18 w/hsc

Summary: The 1970s Martin D-18 Dreadnought Guitar is an affordable piece of playable history from one of the biggest names in acoustic instruments. Less expensive than its D-28 counterpart thanks to mahogany in the sides and back instead of rosewood, the D-18 nevertheless retains a spry, resonant tone that's found favor with decades of players. This guitar has been professionally
converted from a righty to a lefty, and then back to righty with a new bridge, saddle and nut.  Although it shows some signs of the conversion with the double pickguard and strap button hole, it sounds, feels and plays fabulously.

Body: This beautiful Martin is a Dreadnought style with solid Sitka spruce top, b/w/b/w/b binding and mahogany back and sides. One ply black binding on the back and has 2 black pickguards.

Neck: The solid mahogany neck has a great profile- very comfortable “C” profile in the first position that gently tapers and loses its shoulders into a very slight “soft V” towards the higher frets. Its rosewood fretboard has 20 frets, pearl dots, 1 11/16” nut width and 25 ½” scale length. The headstock has a rosewood overlay and nickel Grover tuners.

Pickups/Hardware: This guitar has been fit with a Dimarzio Black Angel soundhole pickup and a K&K piezo.

Cosmetics: This Martin is in pretty good shape overall but does show some normal wear and tear. There is some light buckle-rash scratches on the back and a fair amount of nicks and dings (mostly on the sides). The majority of the neck is free from any nicks or dents, although there is a filled hole on the bottom side of the heel where a strap button once sat before it was converted but the strap button is still on the bass side. There are a couple thin cracks in the side that appear stable, some finish checking on the top (mostly around the fingerboard extension), slight evidence of a well performed neck reset around the heel, some gouges in the fingerboard around the 2nd and 3rd fret but no gouges in the frets themselves.

Playability: This Martin is a great player and it sounds fantastic. The action is low and the frets are in great shape. The neck is straight and it’s been recently set up by our in house luthier with a new set or 12s.

Modifications: This Martin has been converted to a lefty and then back to a righty so it has a new bridge, saddle, a strap button on the bass side of the heel, a new bone nut, at least one new black pickguard, a Dimarzio Black angel pickup in the sound hole, a K&K piezo pickup and an endpin output jack.

Weight: 4 lbs, 13 oz.

Case: This Martin has a non-original, black hardshell case with red plush interior.
