Description

Offered for sale; 1999 Martin D-28 serial number 676903. This D-28 is in excellent condition, neck and frets are fine, cosmetically very clean as can be seen in the photos. This instrument shows very little playing time.

The tone of the Martin D-28 Acoustic Guitar is what separates it from all other guitars. Featuring a solid East Indian rosewood back and sides and a solid sitka spruce top, dreadnought body, white body binding, natural finish top, black pickguard, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard (1-11/16" wide at nut, standard 25.4" scale length), low profile neck shape, ebony bridge, and chrome enclosed gears, with a polished gloss finish.

Since its debut in 1931, the D-28 has remained the standard by which all large-bodied, steel-string guitars are measured. Martin named the big square-shoulder instruments after the uncommonly large dreadnought battleships of the early 20th century. Like those nautical behemoths, Martin’s dreadnoughts were much larger than earlier guitars, and they projected a louder, more bass-heavy sound. The D-28 was quite popular among country string bands. It seems that when string-band guitarists played the giants alongside banjos and fiddles, the projection was a big plus. The bands could use a Martin dreadnought, and its loud, bass-heavy sound would be heard over the other instruments.

The D-28 is still the standard by which all other guitars are judged. This is a beautiful guitar both cosmetically and sonically, at a very attractive price. If you’ve been considering a D-28, consider this one!

Original hard shell case included.

***Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.
***This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.
***It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.
