Description

Since this marvelous guitar will be a major investment for its next fortunate owner, I have included the full information from the Martin site about the remarkable process used to produce it, including the full specifications. However, just some quick notes might be useful.

The design is scientifically based on a Martin Museum D-28 from 1941, with “28”-style appointments and authentic hide glue construction. It has an Adirondack Spruce top, Madagascar Rosewood back and sides aged with Martin’s Vintage Tone System, solid mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard, all in a vintage gloss finish. The serial number indicates a date of very late 2014—long enough to have been enthusiastically played and therefore fully resonant, but not long enough to be abused: I see some faint pick marks on the pick guard, some faint visible wear on the frets, and a glitch in the clear coat on the neck. The action is currently set up at a hair less than 3/32" at the 12th fret low E--very fast and comfortable. The original hard shell case is the deluxe 545v harptone case, which is in near mint condition.

Beyond those observations, I’m going to let the elaborate specs and the pictures speak for themselves, although of course I will be happy to answer questions as best I can. I can promise you that, whatever your style or repertoire, its power and resonance and tons of tone will make you sound better than you’ve ever sounded before.

Buyer pays a flat rate of $55 for insurance and shipping to the lower 48 states; shipping costs elsewhere will be negotiated as necessary. Payment by Paypal is preferred; cashier’s checks are acceptable, but checks must clear before the guitar will be shipped.

I have made every effort to describe and illustrate this wonderful guitar and its case with scrupulous accuracy. Its return will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing. Please check out the pictures and ask any questions you might have before offering to buy this totally cool instrument.

Thank you for your interest.

“Martin D-28 Authentic 1941 Guitar
Here to remind you why you fell in love with us in the first place, the new Authentics are constructed the old way - with hide glue, throughout, and historically-accurate detailing confirmed by using a CAT scan machine located at the Smithsonian Institute. Martin Guitars has gone into the vault and with the help of the highly advanced CAT scan machines they have recreated very limited edition replicas of vintage Martins from 1931, 1933, 1939 and 1941. The high resolution images provided allowed Martin’s design team to see the past in incredible detail and recreate numerous hidden features and subtle nuances from Martin’s “golden era.” All the details have been taken into consideration, from minute differences in bridge plate thicknesses to unique bracing pattern subtleties and the delicate hide glued cloth side reinforcement strips. The handwork, finesse and incredible attention to detail required for these instruments has helped to create the most authentic “New Old” Martins ever!

Based on a 1941 D-28 in our museum, this guitar features Madagascar rosewood back and sides, an Adirondack spruce top, and authentic 1941 D-28 appointments, right down to the neck barrel, heel, diamond, head taper, and slots. Martin’s new Vintage Tone System (VTS) is employed for the top and braces. The new Martin Vintage Tone System (VTS) uses a unique recipe that is based on the historic torrefaction system. The VTS acts much like a time machine in which Martin can target certain time periods and age the top/braces to that era. This focused method allows Martin’s craftsmen and women to recreate not only the pleasing visual aesthetics of a vintage guitar, but also reproduce the special tones previously reserved for vintage instruments.

Payments by Paypal, cashier’s checks, money orders, or personal checks are acceptable, but all payments must clear my bank before the guitar will be shipped. I will CONSIDER reasonable offers, even including installment payments and trade-ins, but generally since I already attempt to price my guitars very competitively, unusual deals must be unusually sweet.

From henceforth [that's how retired English teachers talk], insurance and shipping to the lower 48 states is $55 due to constantly rising shipping costs unless a specific listing says otherwise; shipping costs elsewhere will be negotiated as necessary. I have sold guitars to Russia, Japan, Australia, and over 50 other countries, as well as almost every state in the USA. Since some of my guitars travel thousands of miles, I take care to use lots of packing materials, protect the neck inside the case, and of course de-tune the strings.

I make every effort to describe and illustrate each guitar and case with scrupulous accuracy. However, many of my instruments are well-played vintage items which are many years old, and I am not a luthier. One should assume that any guitar will require some set-up to satisfy your personal requirements, and that not every flaw or ding will be seen/recognized/described in the listing. Thus the return of an instrument will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing. Please read the listing carefully, check out the pictures, and ask any questions you might have before offering to buy.
