EX++. CWB for, of course, Clarence White Brazilian. A rare opportunity. Martin only built 81 D-28 models in 1935 and in 1959 guitar genius Clarence White bought a used one that someone had enlarged the soundhole on for more volume (don't try this at home). Because Clarence was such a huge star, his tone and his guitar were famous. In 1973 Tony Rice bought the guitar and - again - the tone was more famous-er. The D-28CWB is a replica of that most famous Martin. Bookmatched Adirondack spruce top plus hand-scalloped forward-shifted Adirondack braces (5/16"). Bookmatched Brazilian rosewood adds beauty, long-term investment potential, and huge, booming, tone.
The mahogany neck has an adjustable truss rod and a generous 1 & 3/4" nut (not like an original 1935 but like every '30s-'40s-'50s-'60s Martin you've ever owned.
Add to all that the herringbone and ivoroid trim, zig-zag back strip, ivoroid heel cap, ebony bridge with bone through-saddle, bone nut, a touch of aging toner to the nitrocellulose lacquer finish, and of course the oversized soundhole.
Nope, you can't put it down. Yes, you'll be the envy of everyone. Signed by C.F. Martin IV, Geib-style case. It's crack-free and very clean. The Brazilian rosewood is gorgeous and today is a $10k to $20k option from most guitar builders. You can't grow any more 500 year-old Brazilian rosewood trees.
This one is #84 of 150 made. Highly figured bookmatched back, high grade red spruce top, the finest materials, with only the lightest evidence of use. The tone is that huge boom in bass response and clear, sustaining treble. The dalmation pickguard came off, and we may or may not reinstall it, and in any case we have a new one on order. With original case and papers.
