We have here a near-perfect, just about dead-mint example of one of the last Martin 12-string guitars, from the late 1980s, to have been made in their “older” style of building. It has a nice, healthy neck shape with built-in non-adjustable truss rod, which also means it has the extra-selct, beautifully quarter-sawn mahogany they always used before the days of relying on those new-fangled, adjustable rods. This guitar comes to us from the collection of John Sebastian, of Lovin Spoonful fame, who is currently letting a few pieces from his collection go via our store. With its rosewood back and sides, the tone is rich and warm, and coming from its original-design Dreadnaught body there is tons of it. Its action is as low and smooth as any I’ve ever seen on a Martin 12, almost plays itself, and it still has its original best-grade-of-the-day European tuners. It comes with a hand-written letter from John, on his personal stationery, telling the story of how he got it from Dick Boak of the Martin Company, and how he’s had it for over twenty-five years. A true treasure in anyone’s collection, and a steal at only $2995 w/ohsc
