For Sale: 1981 Martin 7/42, Special Order for Martin Authority Dick Boak!
This is a 1981 Martin 7/42 special order employee guitar made for Dick Boak, serial # 430755. It formed part of the Chinery Collection and is in the book as well as Acoustic Guitars, The Illustrated Encyclopedia (Thunder Bay Press). It is in near perfect condition with just a few hairlines developing on the face. Also includes a Martin Custom Shop brochure featuring this very guitar (pictured).
This guitar features a style 45 torch peghead inlay pattern, abalone snowflake inlay on the fingerboard, Dick Boak’s name inlaid in pearl at the end of the fingerboard, abalone trim on the top, soundhole rosette, and on the pickguard, snowflake inlays on the bridge, European spruce top with sunburst finish, ebony fingerboard and bridge, Indian Rosewood back, sides, and peghead veneer, black bindings, and nitrocellulose tortoiseshell grain pickguard. The finish on the spruce top shows moderate lacquer checking, but the instrument appears otherwise to be very fine condition.

Fingerboard: Ebony, bound to match N20 w white inlay stripe like M38 in reverse – fingerboard inlayed by D. Nichols, 19 frets total

Finish: Regular finish except for Sunburst Top

About Dick Boak:
Boak has worked at Martin Guitar for nearly 40 years, starting as a draftsman, moving to prototypes, heading the Martin wood products division and later serving as director of advertising.
He went on to form the artist relations department, initiating signature edition guitar collaborations with more than 100 legendary musicians, such as Eric Clapton, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Sting and John Mayer.
Boak is now is director of museum, archives and special projects. He has authored two books: "Martin Guitar Masterpieces," now in its third printing, and followed it in 2003 by co-authoring a two-volume set about the historical and technical aspects of Martin guitars.
