1930 Martin F-7 Neck Very Good, $1,000.00

Here’s something you won’t see again. Back in the 1960s thru 1970s, I would occasionally convert a pre-war Martin archtop guitar, such as a C-2 or F-7 model, to a flattop guitar, with a new top and usually a new neck, as the originals had a short scale length and the longer OM-scale was much better suited to these guitars. I only converted instruments that had hopelessly damaged tops or some other major problem that made them not suitable for restoration, and this was one of them. At some point, there was a particular F-7 that I converted, which came out stupendously well, a truly superior instrument, which I eventually sold to to Steven Stills, who later gave it to Eric Clapton as a gift, and it ended up in Eric’s auction for charity some years later selling for $30,000. I recently found a 1930s F-7 neck here which, while I cannot guarantee this, am 99% sure came from that very guitar. It has no tuning machines or nut, has been de-fretted, has a few bits of binding missing, and is in otherwise remarkably fine condition. The peghead is inlaid with the traditional CF MARTIN block letters in white mother-of-pearl set against a pure black background, quite striking and unusual; the hexagon fingerboard inlays are of Ivoroid, with white-line inlays the length of the fingerboard setting them off beautifully.
