At Telluride Music Co., we are honored to be an Authorized Dealer of C.F. Martin guitars. For nearly 30 years, Martin guitar has partnered with Fishman Transducers to develop innovative technology to amplify acoustic instruments. But throughout their partnership, Martin has always sought to build a fine acoustic instrument first and offer the pickup as a minimally-invasive means to amplify the natural, acoustic sound without altering the integrity of the instrument. The partnership’s most recent offering—the Fishman Aura VT Enhance, with its natural sound and discrete controls nestled in the sound hole—is the perfect expression of that. New for 2016, the Martin GPC-28E is very much a modern guitar, but its design steeped in Martin’s 183-year tradition of exceptional instruments. It features a Grand Performance body style, which is relatively new for a Martin and falls somewhere between a Dreadnought and an Orchestra Model. It has the classic style-28 wood complement of spruce and rosewood for clear, defined sound. It is punchy and big sounding, but also delicate and subtle in its response. When plugged in, its tone is natural and true to the guitar’s acoustic voice. The Aura VT Enhance is very easy to use and has just three controls to shape the sound. Volume and tone are straight forward, but the Enhance control blends in a different subtlety to the sound. As you increase the Enhance control, the guitar’s response becomes more pronounced; all of the percussive and dynamic nuances of your playing become more and more central to the amplified sound. This Martin GPC-28E is an impressive instrument—true to tradition, but emblematic of where Martin and guitar playing in general are headed in the future.
