Dreadnoughts and other large bodied guitars are a tough sell these days, as more and more players down-size to smaller instruments in search of playing comfort. That said, sometimes you need a guitar with some serious VOLUME! When that situation arises, I generally reach for a 12-fret slope shouldered dreadnought like the example offered here.
This is a Martin HD-28VS built in 2015. This lovely 12-fret Slope D has: a select Sitka Spruce top with a nice bit of silking; back and sides made of East Indian Rosewood; a select Mahogany Modified V-shaped neck; a 25.4" scale fret board made of Black Ebony with a 16" radius, diamond and square inlays and a 1.75" bone nut; a slotted headstock with side-mounted open back tuners; and a Black Ebony vintage belly bridge with drop-in long bone saddle and 2.25" string spacing. The original owner of this guitar had a very nice L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup system installed for seamless amplified play.
The tone of this guitar is as rich as they come and output of this instrument is astounding. When playing this guitar, I am immediately reminded as to why folks favor 12-fret guitars - the sound is HUGE! Please check out the brief sound sample and video provided to get a taste of the great sounds this guitar is capable of. Whether playing finger-style or with a flat pick, this guitar delivers in spades. The playability is superb, with 12th fret string heights of 5/64" at the low E side and 4/64" at the high E side, a great neck angle and lots of saddle remaining.
This guitar is in what I categorize as 'excellent minus' cosmetic condition. There is one tiny and hard to find dimple on the top's upper bout and a fingerprint-like spot on the back where the stain was absorbed a bit differently from the rest of the surronding Rosewood. This latter "flaw" I believe is an act of Mother Nature. It is under the finish and perfectly smooth. Both these little issues are pictured. Otherwise, you will really have to look for any other evidence of prior play. The frets are in superb condition as well (see photo). It ships in it's original TKL-made Geib style case which is in near mint condition.
Martin is no longer producing this guitar as a standard production model, but this superb pre-loved example can be yours today. If you have been looking for an extremely lush sounding, 12-fret instrument with plenty of punch and at a decent price, please consider this beautiful guitar! Very nice indeed!
