Here we have a gorgeous modern Martin HD-35 that is everything it ought to be, and more. We typically think of D-28s and D-18s when it comes to Bluegrass, but this HD-35 has a big sound that would hold its own in any Bluegrass jam session you’re likely to be in. It would be equally at home, though, in pretty much any style you might want to play. It’s a well balanced guitar with rich harmonics and plenty of power.
Introduced in 1965, the D-35 was the first Martin to feature a 3-piece back. Borne out of necessity due to declining rosewood supplies, the 3-piece back became an instant hit due to its stunning appearance. What makes the HD-35 model unique is that it features both the scalloped X-bracing of the D-28 and the 3-piece back of the D-35.
Bone Nut with a width of 1 3/4 inches. Scale length of 25.4 inches. The bound Ebony fingerboard has 20 frets in excellent condition. Ebony bridge with bone saddle. Grover Rotomatic tuners. The guitar is in high excellent condition with only slight signs of play wear. Comes with its original hardshell case.
There’s something special about a well-aged vintage Martin dreadnaught, but having said that, we can also recommend this two-year-old HD-35 without reservation. It’s a great modern guitar that really delivers the goods. Kudos to Martin for continuing to build great guitars from 1833 right up to the present day.
