It isn’t often that we see a used one of these rare and very desirable Martin M-21 Steve Earle models come along, and this one is superior. Designed by me with Steve's input for his own style about ten years ago, Martin made exactly 154 of these Artist Signature Editions before closing down the ordering This is #147, one of the very last, with maybe thirty or so having been done with Martin’s special Amberburst finish on the top and this is one of them. We wish they hadn’t stopped, as I've had so many requests for more. Steve has three that he tours with and I've got one, and who knows where the rest of them went though I'm certain that they all went to very proud homes; I'm amazed that someone actually gave this one up. The basic idea was to have an M-size Grand Auditorium guitar for working musicians, made from the best materials and with the most austere, least costly decoration for maximum performance at minimum cost, all this at Steve's behest. Back and sides are of East Indian rosewood, top is of Alpine spruce with scalloped bracing, fingerboard and bridge are rosewood. Best-quality American-made Waverly tuners are used here of course. Condition of this one is about perfect as originally issued, barely ever played. A Fishman Infinity Matrix pickup, same as Steve uses on stage, was installed by us, and a Fishman Aura Spectrum pre-amp/DI comes with it. This M-21 Steve Earle model, like every one of them, has a label inside that was hand-signed by both Steve and me. I designed this Martin guitar for Steve, specified every little detail, inside and out, with his personal tastes and needs in mind, and Martin sold through more of them than almost any other Artist Signature model they had ever made. This guitar just came back from the person who had originally bought it from us and he has kept it immaculately; it's just about perfect in every way. Action exactly as when it first left here, frets exactly as when it first left here, original serial-numbered Martin hang tag still in the case. Over $750 worth of professional pickup system included, essentially free. Enough said. $3995 w/ohsc
