Description

This 1944 D’Angelico New Yorker in Natural is a stunning example with a great story! This guitar belonged to Frank Palma, a local musician who played around NYC as part of the Jan Raye Trio…It’s a New Yorker for a New Yorker! In John D’Angelico’s ledger, you will find that this guitar was built for Palma and was the last instrument D’Angelico built in 1944. Palma also happened to be the childhood hockey coach of one of our owners, which is how we came to own this lovely instrument. The New Yorker is widely considered one of the finest archtop models ever crafted, featuring an 18” body and X bracing. It showcases intricate layers of binding throughout, gold-plated hardware, and of course that iconic “skyscraper” logo on the headstock. As can be expected on an archtop of this age, there have been some repairs to keep this guitar in working order. Inside the case, you will find a promotional flier for the group with a photo of Palma and his bandmate, along with some other miscellaneous paperwork from the original owner. It is reported that D’Angelico only built 1,164 guitars before his passing in 1964, so it is safe to say this is a rare catch!
