At Telluride Music Co., we are honored to be an Authorized Dealer of C.F. Martin guitars. These days, it seems there are 100s of builders trying to recreate the iconic guitars of Martin’s “Golden Era,” but ultimately Martin’s line of Authentic guitars are by far the most historically-accurate and some of the best-sounding of these instruments. Without question, these guitars are the finest instruments Martin currently offers. This Martin OM-18 Authentic 1933 VST is based on a gorgeous 1933 OM-18 loaned to Martin by guitar historian and dealer Fred Oster. To ensure historical accuracy, Martin brought the original ’33 OM-18 to the CAT scan machine at the Smithsonian Institute. Using the resulting diagrams and prewar spec-sheets, Martin builds these guitars to a meticulous level of authenticity—in looks, tone and feel. Constructed the old way, with hide glue throughout, this OM-18 Authentic 1933 features a solid Adirondack Spruce top and beautifully-figured Mahogany back and sides. An Orchestra Model body with mahogany back and sides is a relatively rare beast, and we love the combination of the rich, warm, woody tone with punchy, responsive dynamics. Of course, Martin’s Vintage Tone System (VTS) certainly helps the tone as well. Based on the historic system of torrefaction, VTS allows Martin to properly season the top and braces so that they behave like old tone-woods. Further, the finish work on this guitar is more traditional. After finding some old notes that mentioned a different pumice and formula than are used today, Martin developed a finish that has a more satin appearance than modern high-gloss models. The result is a finish that shows us what a new Martin looked like in 1933. This OM-18 Authentic 1933 features the historic “shaded top” sunburst that Martin started offering in 1932. The original ’33 OM-18 helped inspire Martin’s latest “Ambertone” sunburst. The result is a guitar that looks as good as it sounds. Please call (970) 728-9592 or e-mail for an in-hand description.
