This is one heck of a very special, very limited and very powerful guitar. Pat Donohue was Garrison Keillor’s guitarist on “A Prairie Home Companion” for years and this guitar was designed especially for him. It is unique in the Martin pantheon as far as I know for its being essentially an OM, or Orchestra Model, but with a slightly deeper body than standard and with a wee bit more arch to the back, like on the M or 0000 models. The back and sides are best-grade straight-grained Indian rosewood, the top select Adirondack spruce and the decor is Style-30, with special multi-colotred purfling around the top, something Martin used around 1900 but not since. Additional complements are a special matching multi-colored back strip, Style-45 abalone soundhole rosette and early Style-45 peghead inlay on a traditional slotted peghead. Now let’s get down to the important stuff. The scale length is standard OM, or “long” scale 25.4"; nut width is 1-13/16”; the neck has the modified-V profile with a full-gloss finish. All the rest of the features are equally high-end: Ivoroid bindings, cool understated fingerboard inlay, and on and on. The real bottom line here is that this is one heck of a fabulous instrument. Tons of clear, deep tones and warm highs, really crisp action; a masterful instrument in every conceivable way. And it’s rare too, only forty of them ever made and that was it. Very close inspection shows me that at some point it was back to the Martin factory, where they applied a coat of lacquer to the body to cover a few nicks and scratches on the top, nearly impossible to see now. It is overall in excellent-plus condition and has just been thoroughly gone over by us here in our own shop. This guitar came to me from its original owner and is all ready for a wonderful, very special Martin guitar experience in a new home for only $3495 w/ohsc
