2002 OM-42
The "OM" was born in 1929 at the request of a banjo player who wanted a big sound like a dreadnought in a smaller body size than a dreadnought.
The difference between the "OM-42" and the "OM-42000" is in the scale, which is long like the dreadnought.
The original OM-42 was produced in very small numbers in 1930.
Sixty-seven years later, in 1997, the Paul Simon model "OM-42PS" was produced in a limited edition of 500, and in 1999, the standard OM-42 was added to the lineup, continuing as the top-of-the-line OM type model.
The model introduced here is a 2002 model.
The tinted color is typical of this period and gives it an austere look.
The 45mm nut width is wide by the numbers, but the thin shape makes it easy to play even with normal chord stroke play.
What is also surprising is the wood of the neck.
I am not sure if the picture fully conveys the effect, but the flamed wood is magnificent.
We have handled many Martin guitars in the past, including OM-42s, but this is the first time we have seen this kind of graininess on a non-custom model.
The openness of the scalloped bracing and the good condition of the neck resetting allow you to enjoy the sound pressure and extended high frequency that approaches that of a dreadnought.
In my opinion, the OM is a very versatile model among the Martin models.
It can be expected to play well in all situations, whether for chord strokes or solo playing.

- Thorough inspection of the entire neck and wood by an acoustic guitar specialist
- Neck has been reset in the past and is generally straight with no chatter or clogging.
- String height at the 12th fret: 2.2mm on the 6th string and 1.6mm on the 1st string.
- Saddle protrusion: approx. 3.6mm-2.6mm
