Description

Okay, when we say 'pre-war Martin' around here its usually not pertaining to the Civil War... but here it is!

This guitar is being sold unrestored and AS-IS... reason being is whoever ends up with this gem is most likely going to want their own luthier guru to do the work.

This guitar has been in one family for over 100 years! Best we can tell it's a circa 1850's era CF MARTIN NEW YORK. Size 2 1/2, Style 16 mahogany back and sides parlor guitar.

Martin did make some mahogany low-cost models in the 1850s, they were a dollar less (wholesale) than the rosewood versions that became Style 17. We believe this to be a Style 16, size 2 1/2 but this early a lot of measurements vary, they weren't really sticking to exact specs at that point.
The early date helps the value a lot, because it's pre-Civil War era and C. F. Martin Sr. was still alive. Looks like the bridge is probably original. Missing one friction tuner and one is broken. 3" crack at end of ebony fingerboard. Missing two bar frets and one has been replaced.

24.5" scale.
Ebony fingerboard.

Spruce top
Mahogany back/sides
3 very light fan braced, with two finger braces off of that.
Has two long ago repaired (with canvas) side cracks...

Guitar comes with provenance and some history from family...

Not too many of these 170 year old unrestored guitars from Martin floating around out there, here's your chance to own a genuine piece of American History!
