Description

Offered is this terrific Carolina Custom from Terry McInturff. Terry is a North Carolina-based builder who has been in the guitar business since the late 70's and started out doing restoration and repair work. He later developed his own line of instruments and has built guitars for many of the "greats" of the rock music industry. He builds his guitars in very small quantities and each one is essentially a custom piece.

Like similar models from Gil Yaron, Historic Makeovers, Nik Huber, Yohan Gustavsson and many, many others, the Carolina Custom is Terry's interpretation of the iconic 50's era Les Paul Standard. The specs for this particular guitar include: a solid Spainish Cedar back topped with flamed Eastern Maple; a nitrocellulose lacquer finish in Tea Burst; a 24.625" scale, 20-fret Honduran Mahogany neck with Terry's '59 neck shape; a very dark East Indian Rosewood fretboard with a 12" radius, medium/jumbo frets, MOP dot inlays and a 1-11/16" bone nut; vintage style cream binding on the top, neck and headstock; a locking TonePros AVR-II bridge and tailpiece; Grover vintage style tuners; and for electronics, Peter Florance Voodoo 59 humbuckers, with CTS pots and Switchcraft jack and three way toggle. The total weight of this beauty is just 8.1 pounds (8 pounds, 2 ounces).

This is a killer LP-style guitar! Terry has painstakingly given this instrument all the vibe of the best LP replicas. The LP feel and tone are unmistakable. Close your eyes and your senses tell you you are playing a very high end LP. The tone is thick and cutting like an LP should. It is setup nice and low and plays super easy. The Peter Florance HB's sound terrific in this application. Just check out the brief sound sample included herein. This thing cooks!

Terry ages these guitars like you would find on a VOS Gibson, that is, aged hardware and a light distressing of the finish. That aging aside, you will find a few very shallow impressions here and there as shown in the photos provided, but nothing you can easily see or that affects play. The medium/jumbo frets show very little wear. It comes in it's original LP-style Access case.

If a hand-made LP style masterpiece is what you had in mind, this McInturff will fill the bill. I'm not sure if Terry is still building these, but when last available these went for near $7K. Get this 2010 beauty for far less. Make it yours!
