"As much as I enjoy making a "traditional" instrument out of the finest "tonewoods", I also love making instruments which push the boundaries and open new possibilities to musicians willing to explore and expand the scope of their music. The influences manifested in the Totemguitar line, to date close to 400 instruments, go back to Dada, Surrealism, collage and assemblage art, Pop art, and sometimes a more conceptual approach, along with the occasional dose of pure kitsch." - Michael Spalt

We are very excited to be carrying the brilliant guitars of Austrian luthier and artist, Michael Spalt. First up is a guitar known as "Kalamare". Let us start by saying these are stunning instruments in every regard. Thinking these might just be cool looking? You'd be dead wrong. The build quality of Michael's guitars is incredibly high and they sound amazing. The second you pick one up, it's clear the attention to detail isn't just reserved for the tops. These guitars have an amazing feel thanks to the nearly flawless fretwork, nut installation, setup, light weight, and the satin/open pore back finish.

So, what exactly is the story with these guitars? Michael has worked for many, many years to develop an acoustically transparent resin for the guitar's top, which allows him to stretch his creative muscle by treating each guitar as a blank canvas - quite literally. Found objects, various cuts of wood, and other objects are suspended in the clear resin, creating stunning works of art. Sonically, this guitar has a beautiful, articulate top-end that can twang as good as any Tele, crossed with the warmth and punch of its Honduran mahogany body.

A stunning, highly original, master built guitar that should be at the top of the list for anyone tired of the same old, same old. Priced with hardshell case.
