Description
Mirabella Guitars continue the NY Guitar Tradition and style of building high-end, fully Handmade instruments from which Cristian was raised on; while incorporating his own innovative designs. This balance, as well as the balance of visual striking ascetics, top-quality workmanship/materials and acoustic-science, are all reflected in each and every guitar Cris Mirabella creates. Much of Cris's youth was spent in Jimmy D'Aquisto's workshop, listening and learning from the Master Luthier. While not a full-on apprentice of Jimmy; as he was to young at the time. Mirabella did apprentice under Ron DeMarino who built a name for himself as a great NY Luthier and repair tech after many years of doing work on countless vintage guitars for John Lennon and other well known artists of every genre. Cristian Mirabella is most well known for his fully carved archtops like his Crossfire model, as well as restorations of many fine vintage instrument masterpieces, by names such as D'Angelico & D'Aquisto. However he has also built many unique one of a kind guitars such as this masterfully crafted Semi-Hollow body, utilizing the same level of attention to detail as his more expensive Archtops.

This 14" Mirabella Semi-Hollow body is an incredible piece of Luthier craftsmanship, steeped in the old NY-style  tradition. Fully hand built by one master builder, this guitar has lots of Mirabella Guitar firsts and features many of Cris's most sought after appointments. This particular example was built in 2013 and has had only one owner who has another Mirabella on order and sold us this piece, through Mirabella's NY shop in order to fund it. When we first saw it in Cris's shop we just had to have it. Cris went over the entire instrument with a new set-up and re-crowned as well as polished all of the frets. He also added new Ebony pickup covers. So whoever buys this guitar is essentially getting a Mirabella that plays like a new, but with a few scratches and some play wear seen in the last two pics. Some scratches are on the top and there are two deeper scratches near the lower strap pin. Those are not visible while playing of course.

As we were saying the guitar is the first to ever have the Mirabella "Paper Airplane" inlays, which have become a very popular appointment on Mirabella's guitars. It's also one of the first instruments to feature Cris's open headstock design and custom shaped dual sound-holes. Two of our favorite appointments of this guitar are the Archtop style Ebony Guard with Koa stripe and Mirabella “M” emblem on the top of the headstock.

The guitar is bound in figured Koa, which is part of it's theme. You can find Koa throughout; such as the body binding, in the inlays, pickup rings, truss rod cover stripes and beneath the Ebony knobs as well as under the mini 3-way toggle switch. Most modern day Mirabella Electrics have mini toggle switches rather than large ones. This is his preference as it's a very sturdy switch and doesn't get in the way of playing, while being placed in the optimal position for quick pickup switching.

This beauty is extremely lively played acoustically, with its Maple top and Honduran Mahogany back and sides. You'll instantly notice harmonics that leap off the board and a gorgeous chime to the notes. Once plugged in the Benedetto/Duncan A6 pickups with custom Ebony covers are warm and articulate but with great clarity, definition and punch in all three positions. Definitely the perfect match for this particular instruments acoustic voice. You'll also notice how balanced the neck to body ratio is, whether you're seated or standing. The custom contours allow for comfort and easy access to the entire fingerboard. Looking at the back, you'll notice the black stinger paint job on the headstock, giving this lovely guitar an even more sophisticated appearance.

This instrument is the perfect mix of old world American craftsmanship and modern design. Playability is fast with Cris's modern medium C profile and the action is nice and low at only 3 & 4 64" at the 12th fret. It's currently strung up with 11's. The guitar comes with it's original black tolex hard shell case. These don't come up for sale often, so grab this beauty while she's still here.
