Description

Serial # 211 is a 2004 Monteleone Radio Flyer that was commissioned by Robert James Waller, author of "The Bridges of Madison County" and numerous other novels, This is an exceptionally fine instrument in every dimension - quality, sound, function and beauty. The top is carved, bookmatched close-grained spruce; the back is carved, bookmatched curly maple with fine ribbon curl; the neck is a one-piece carved curly maple creation with a fine profile and notable figure; and the sides are cut and bent curly maple with two Side-Sound holes in the upper bass bout. The fretboard, bridge, pickguard, and tailpiece are created from Macassar ebony, and the headstock inlays are pearl and abalone.

Body width at the lower bout is 18", and the body depth is a very comfortable 2-7/8". The scale length is 25", and the neck width at the nut is 1.75". The neck profile is rounded and very comfortable, and the combination of these features results in a guitar that is very easy to hold and play without effort. The spruce top has a single oval sound hole that combines with the two side sound holes to produce a richness of tone and volume that calls for playing in any style or genre. The notes ring with equal clarity along the entire width and length of the fretboard, a design feat of John's that is unique in contemporary lutherie and very satisfying to hear for the musician and audience.

The guitar also features a rounded Venetian cutaway body, and the top is X-braced internally with scalloped spruce braces. The guitar is lightweight and is set up to play with almost no effort. Gentle playing will produce beautiful chords and notes, and more vigorous or hard strumming will produce a sensation of blooming notes of increasing volume. The guitar is in mint condition, and comes complete with a beautiful Cedar Creek hard case with faux alligator covering, and a fine case cover It also comes with a unique folding and adjustable Monteleone Grand Stand, made by John of various woods from his studio.

John's current waiting list is closed and extends out for three years. This beautiful and very rare instrument is available now and is sure to satisfy anyone who wants one of the finest acoustic guitars in existence.
