Description

This c1974 Music Man HD-130 amp head serial number B000535 is in very good condition. There are some “scuffs and nicks” in the black tolex covering, a little corrosion on the chassis straps, overall nice shape. These amplifiers are becoming harder to find as they have always had and are continuing to develop a following. They are rugged powerful roadworthy units that were the first designs to incorporate a hybrid of tube and solid-state technology.

The preamps used solid state integrated circuits, while the power amps featured a tube driven output stage utilizing 4- EL34s. The preamp in the Music Man amps, unlike the corresponding Fender amps, can really overdrive and this early design uses a 12AX7 inverter tube. Another unusual feature of this amp is the tremolo circuit, in addition to tremolo speed, the “tremolo intensity control provides a double function. At settings from zero to five, modulation varies from zero to 100% respectively. At settings above five, a second modulation pulse is added giving a Doppler effect that simulates a rotating speaker."

The reverb sounds quite good and this is one of the earliest designs to offer both Master Volume and a power reduction switch. These amps are quite loud, work really well with pedals and offer good headroom with bright “highs”, strong “mids” and “lows”, lots of punch!

Music Man amps were Eric Clapton's main amp for years, and Johnny Winter used them to the end.

These are great amps, ad one to your collection!

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.
*This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.
*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.
