Description

Retrofret Stock # 7347. National Model 1170 Club Combo Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1952), made in Chicago, serial # X-15410, sunburst lacquer finish, Laminated maple body with spruce top, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown chipboard case. This is a fairly rare example of National's early 1950's electric line, a period when the company was developing its modern style instruments. The Club Combo was a fairly high-end archtop model with a full size 17' non-cutaway body mounting two pickups in National's eccentric period style with all the electronics floating over the top. Even the solidbodies were built this way for several years! This fully-hollow body is triple bound on the top, back and sides with the F-holes bound as well. The "Stylist" neck has a bound rosewood fingerboard with pearloid block inlay, and is adjustable at the heel for angle to the body (you can do a neckset with an Allen wrench!) The headstock has a plastic overlay with a raised "National" logo, the tuners are the 1940's style Kluson-made National style with the back coverplate bearing the company logo. This is a good sounding and playing guitar, definitely eccentric but with a cool funky sound from the excellent National pickups.Overall length is 42 1/2 in. (108 cm.), 17 1/16 in. (43.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/2 in. (8.9 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). A superb example overall, all original with very little wear, just a few light chips and dings and no repairs or alterations. Very playable, one of the better "Stylist' necks we have had-much straighter than most! A super cool period piece, complete wuith the original chipboard case. Excellent Condition.
