Summary

Finish: Original yellow finish on the body, headstock, and back of the neck. The fingerboard has been refretted and refinished, and the body has touched up repairs on the front and sides.

Body Details: Mahogany back, sides, and top with front and back stenciled scenes and biscuit bridge resonator. There are repaired cracks in the top at the treble shoulder and treble F-hole, as well as repaired separations along the top and back seams at the treble shoulder and treble bout. These repairs have all been touched up with yellow finish, and there is an additional yellow touch-up on the side of the treble shoulder.

Neck Details: Maple neck with painted maple fingerboard, dot inlays, and non-adjustable neck reinforcement. The neck has been reset, and the fingerboard has been refretted and refinished. There are four screws extending from the fingerboard tongue into the body. The screw holes were filled with yellow finish. The "National" headstock decal is heavily worn.

Hardware: The tuners have been replaced, and the nut has been shimmed. There are a couple open screw holes visible on the sides of the headstock from the original tuners.

Cosmetic Condition: This vintage National Triolian has plenty of authentic wear from decades of use and repair. The original yellow body finish has worn and checked, and shows slight discoloration in a few spots; the painted resonator cover has also worn through and tarnished. There are repairs on the front and side of the treble shoulder as well as on the side of the treble bout, all of which have been touched up with yellow finish. There is a large touched up ding on the side of the treble shoulder as well. The original Hawaiian stencils are nicely worn. The finish on the back of the neck is heavily worn, and is smooth and comfortable to play. The refinished fingerboard is mostly smooth, with some minor bubbling from the 5th to 8th frets, and has 4 filled screw holes on the tongue. The headstock face is worn, and part of the "National" decal is worn away.

Tech Notes: The guitar plays well with low action and optimal neck relief, and is well suited to either slide or fingerstyle playing. The frets are tall with minimal wear. The serial number and construction appointments date the guitar to the early 1930s.
