Description

If you are a fan of ultra-high-quality LP style guitars, but can't quite muster the funds needed for a Yaron, Gustavsson or similar instrument, then you really should take a look at the work of German luthier Nik Huber. Offered here is a Nik Huber Orca 59, Nik's version of a the venerable '59 Les Paul.

Like the guitar upon which it is based, this guitar has a solid Mahogany body with an Eastern Curly Maple top and a Mahogany set neck. The guitar's total weight is just 8.5 pounds (8 pounds, 8 ounces). The Faded Sunburst finish is a semi-gloss nitro lacquer which gives the guitar an aged look and feel. No pore filler is used on the Mahogany body for improved resonance. The neck has a killer 50's round shape, this one with depth measurements of .930" at the first fret and 1.01" at the twelfth fret and is bound in Maple. The 25" scale length Brazilian Rosewood fretboard has a 10"-14" radius with extra hard medium jumbo frets and a 1.67" bone nut. The hardware is all aged nickel on the pickup covers, Schaller Kluson-style tuners and the Tone Pros AVR-2 bridge and tailpiece. The electronics include superb PAF style humbuckers made by Haussel of Germany, with 2 volume controls, 2 tone controls and a three-way switch.

While many of these specifications may remind you of a Les Paul, the feel, playability and tone will quickly make a Gibson seem rather crude. Just check out the little details like the flamed Maple neck binding and the rear cavity covers (with copper shielding) made of wood instead of plastic. Gibson can only dream about offering the playability and build-quality of this instrument. This is an incredibly lively guitar with over-the-top resonance. The tone is certainly reminiscent of a Les Paul, but with a bit more chime accompanying that LP bite. Please check out the brief sound sample provided.

The 2014 model shows only very light evidence of play beyond the light aging Nik gives it in his shop. Otherwise this guitar is in superb condition and the frets show no observable wear.

A new example of this guitar will cost you near $9K and to my mind this guitar is well worth that sum. However, you can have this lightly played 2014 example for $3K less. It comes with it's original case, the certificate of authenticity, spec sheet and accessories.

The Orca 59 is easily one of the finest LP-style guitars for the money that I've had the pleasure to play! Make this beauty yours today.

Note: we take all of our own photos and NEVER use stock photos. The guitar you see in our photos is the exact guitar you will receive.
