Well-used old Noh pipes from the Edo period at a reasonable price.
[Overview]
Old Noh pipe. Rattan-wrapped sooty bamboo. The head metal is missing. No accessories. Body only. Probably made in the Edo period.
[Condition.]
This is an old flute. There are peeling and repairs scattered throughout. The current black lacquer on the rattan winding was repainted after the Meiji period (1868-1912). The current cicada may have been newly made when the black lacquer was repaired, but we cannot be certain. The dense wax at the mouth of the utaguchi has undergone recent adjustments.
The position, angle, and shape of the beeswax inside the mouth of the Noh flute can be fine-tuned to greatly affect the way the player's breath enters the flute, the attack of the sound, and the tone quality of the sound. Our Noh pipes are made with a general amount and shape of wax at the discretion of the flute maker. Please note that fine adjustment may be necessary depending on the player.
[Features]
The singing mouth has a slightly deep curve characteristic of old pipes, but the size of the mouth is medium. The finger holes are small for an old pipe, and are not oval in shape but close to a perfect circle. The valley between the finger holes is shallow. The tone has a mature and good resonance characteristic of old pipes.
