OMI Dobro Model 36 c 1970 | In 1967 the Dopyera brothers formed a new resonator instrument manufacturig company called Original Music Instruments (OMI). The workshop was in Valinda, CA, and a number of high-grade instruments were produced over the span of a decade. This example likely dates to about 1970, based on decal and features, and could be called a Model 36. The steel body is engraved with a trailing flower (tulip, rose?) motif, a pretty rare pattern for these guitars. The neck is maple, 14-frets to the body with a sunburst finish on back, and features an adjustable truss rod. The tuners are enclosed Grover.
The body measures 14 1/8" across at the lower bout, and the scale length is 24 1/2". The nut measures 1 3/4" across at the nut and the fingerboard has a slight radius.
The guitar is in overall excellent condition, and show no indication of repairs and little signs of use. The frets and fingerboard show little wear. The plating and paint show a touch of patina which could be easily removed with a bit of elbow grease.
The guitar plays easily and is very loud. Excellent for blues picking or slide or use as a lap-style guitar.
Comes with a new C.F. Martin hard case.
