1920 Oscar Schmidt Concert Acoustic Natural

DESCRIPTION
For your consideration a 1920 Oscar Schmidt Concert with a Natural finish. This little acoustic just turned a 100 years old! And is a fantastic example of what the Schmidt factory in Jersey City was capable of doing! The red spruce top and white oak back and sides have aged wonderfully, producing a sweet & warm tone with a bit of bite in the upper register. Beautiful wood work on the back featuring a checkerboard purfling. Fantastic “Nick Lucas” abalone inlays. Great vintage sound and feel!

Specs!

This guitar is in good condition and comes with a non-original soft shell case.

Top crack has been glued. This guitar has had a neck reset as well as a refret. The bridge was reglued and has a new bone saddle. Nickel three plate tuners with replaced buttons.

Nut width measures 1.75″. 24.75″ scale length.

Brazilian rosewood overlay on headstock with a pearl star inlay. Mahogany neck with a depth of .80″ (1st fret) and 1.20″ (12th fret). Dyed maple fingerboard with “Nick Lucas” inlays. Refretted with 18 small frets currently in excellent condition.

Red spruce top with white oak back and sides. Extremely cool Checkerboard Rosette and purfling. The ebony bridge has been reglued and has a new bone saddle. Top crack is glued. Typical finish checking on the body and player on the back. The finish on the neck is nicely broken in.

History!

In 1871 Oscar & Otto Schmidt started selling musical instruments, applying for dozens of patents for musical instruments and related equipment. Initially their bread winner was buying and selling Guitar Zithers. After a series of partnerships Oscar would end up buying out the company they had built Menzenhauer & Schmidt. It wouldn’t be until 1911 that the Oscar Schmidt Company would be up and running. At one point the factory had over 150 employees and Oscar had several distributers over seas in Europe, South Africa and Australia.
