~1925 Oscar Schmidt Model 654 Natural

DESCRIPTION
For your consideration a 1920s Oscar Schmidt Model 654 in a Natural finish with a beautiful “Tree of Life” inlay on its fingerboard! We’ve been fortunate enough to get a handful of these old Oscar Schmidt guitars this year and this one is a personal favorite! When we received this guitar it was non-functioning and had a Bosewell and Wilbur Tonaharp. Recently restored by Portland Fret Works as always we are extremely impressed by their attention to detail and expertise.

Specs! This guitar is in good condition. It has had a neck reset and a refret. Top and side cracks have been repaired. Purfling from under the neck was used to repair purfling that was damaged by the Tonaharp. The top, bottom and end block have been patched up post removing the Tonaharp (new wood matches well). It has a new bone nut and saddle. It also has a new pick guard. Nickel three plate tuners. Brazilian rosewood head stock overlay. Missing badge on headstock. Mahogany neck with a depth of .99″ at the first fret and 1.5″ at the twelfth fret. Dyed wood fingerboard with “Tree of Life” inlay, 20″ radius. Action measures 5/64″ straight across. Refretted with 18 small frets currently in new condition. Spruce top with mahogany back and sides finished in a natural stain. Wonderful purfling around the body. Ebony bridge with new intonated bone saddle. Comes with a non-original chip board case. Weighs 3 pounds.

At nearly 100 years old this little Oscar Schmidt has a new lease one life! Plays perfectly up and down the neck. Beautiful round bouncing single notes and crisp punchy chords. Extremely resonate, dig in and hear the overtones spring out. Beautiful inlay work. Absolutely amazed by the phenomenal work performed at Portland Fret Works, this guitar is ready for a new life!

Modifications: This guitar has had a neck reset and a refret. Some of the original purfling was removed from under the neck and used to repair a section that was missing where the Tonaharp was located. The top, bottom and end block of the guitar was patched up post removing the Tonaharp. It has a new bone nut and saddle. Top and sides cracks have been repaired. It has a new pick guard. All the work was excellently preformed by Portland Fret Works.
