Description

Oscar Schmidt DeLuxe Model 570 c 1928 | $650 | (V2101) This type guitar appeared in the 1932 Schmidt catalog as a model 570 Stella, Standard-size, at a cost of $66.00 ... per dozen! This example pretty much follows the catalog description: "Birchwood body. Top edge and sound holebound with white celluloid and beautifully colored purfling. Fancy strip of decalcomania through center of back. shaded Satin finish. Poplar neck. White Pearlette Guardplate. White pearlette headpiece and fingerboard with inlaid ebony position dots. Silver frets, bone nut, nickel plated machine heads. Rosewood bone fretted bridge with pearleye endpins. Good quality strings."

Prior repairs include the original finish stripped and re-varnished, and two top cracks repaired. It appears that several back braces were replaced, and possibly even the entire back. We recently re-set the neck, installed a new nut and saddle and leveled and dressed the frets. We replaced the classical style tuners that were on the guitar with Stu-Mac relic tuners. The Brazilian rosewood bridge appears original. Several bridge pins may be original, and several are replacements but similar. The guitar is missing its end pin. Overall, the guitar is in very solid condition.

The body measures 13 1/4" across at the nut. Scale length is 24 7/8". The neck is carved in a typical 'V' of the period, and measures 1 13/16" across at the nut with string spacing set at 2 1/4" across at the saddle. Action is set at 7/64".

The guitar looks good and plays easily. It produces the classic 'Stella' ladder-braced sound, loud and boxy with decent sustain. A great little blues guitar.

Comes with a soft case.
