LUTHIER’S PROJECT:
SOMEONE WILL GET A VERY RARE GUITAR AT A BARGAIN PRICE IF YOU HURRY.
I PAID $1,200. FOR HER SEVERAL YEARS AGO AS A PROJECT I HAVE NOT GOTTON TO YET!

Very rare late 30’s - early 40’s Otwin Olymp!
Awesome big, bizarre German, curvatious, arch top, jazz box with a wide lower bout (about 17”) beneath a smaller upper bout (about 11“)! Awesome thunderbolt sound holes, beautiful checkered binding, and a very interesting mechanical string mute bridge (needs a new felt pad glued on). Solid spruce hand carved top, original tuners all work perfect and very nice inlaid headstock. Her silver plated tailpiece has her name “Otwin” beautifully engraved. She also has an old DIN Bakelite plug on her side, (screw in pin insert missing) and an early audio plug on her bottom.
This is a project that I have not yet got to. SHE IS BEING SOLD “AS IS”, A PROJECT. She has been hanging on my wall for 5-6 years now and I have tons of projects lined up and my time is running out.
She will need a loving person who will take the time to put some work into her.
She has overall play wear and wear on the back of her neck.
She was re-fretted and her fretboard was leveled too low, right into the fret markers. Her neck had separated at the neck heel lamination (very common on German arch-tops) while it appears that the heel has never moved, the neck and front section had come loose, re-glued slightly out of alignment and secured with a nail through the fretboard. Ouch!
SO… she will need the neck wetted or steamed and worked off and the nail removed, the old fretboard redressed, refretted and rebound or steamed off, a new fretboard glued on, the neck aligned and properly glued in place and fretted. It is mostly time involved with very little money spent. You can buy a pre-slotted fretboard from Luthier’s Mercantile for around $100. and frets from Jescar for $15. The rest is up to you to have a truly outstanding and extremely rare German arch top!
She plays well and sounds outstanding as is, with a loud voice and deep bass tones, but I would like to see her go to a home where she will be rejuvenated!
Some more photos available for VERY SERIOUS buyers.
