Up for sale, a 1975 Ovation Deacon in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This top of the line USA made Ovation solidbody electric guitar is an extremely well crafted and tonally unique guitar, with a pioneering tone circuit and a set of humbuckers that have a very clear and powerful sound. The top end is chimey and well rounded, and bass frequencies have focus and clarity without being too boomy. Crafted from Honduran mahogany, the guitar has a strong fundamental acoustic tone that translates well through the pickups, and despite the unconventional body shape, the guitar balances well on a strap and sits comfortably in your lap. This guitar represents one of the earliest examples of the second generation Deacon, as Ovation switched to the humbuckers seen on this example in early '75! Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Deacon is strung with fresh 10-46 strings, with low action and solid intonation.

The bolt-on mahoagany neck has a slender C shaped profile, with a bound ebony fretboard and pearloid diamond inlay. The neck is quite slim and allows for very quick and accurate lead work, with a smooth gloss finish on the profile that feels great on the palm. Th guitar has a scale length of 24 3/4" which will feel intuitive to any Gibson enthusiast. The stock fretwire is intact and in great shape, with well rounded fret crowns and plenty of height and life left. The frets show virtually no wear, and the neck boasts a responsive truss rod, comfortable action, and no buzzing or dead spots. The nut is a full 1 11/16" width, perfect for easy chording and accurate lead work. On the headstock, the gold Ovation silkscreened logo is present, and the original chrome "Ovation" branded Schaller tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should.

The Deacon was conceived as a deluxe version of the Breadwinner model, and the electronics on both instruments are identical, delivering as the Ovation catalog put it, the "sounds of tomorrow." It's also notable as the first solidbody to have a built-in FET preamp. This means that the low impedance double pole Ovation pickups can be used with a high impedance amp. This produces less hum and more sound; a recording engineer's dream. There's an electronic notch switch which controls the phasing between pickups, producing some surprising midrange tone variations, as well as a standard three-way pickup selector toggle and Master Volume and Tone knobs.

Cosmetically, this is an extremely well cared for and clean instrument, with a rich gloss brown sunburst finish that shows only a few extremely faint finish scratches in the clear coat and a tiny nick or two on the edges of the body as wel. This is truly a near mint vintage instrument that will satisfy Ovation collectors and serious players looking for a unique range of tones, not to mention that the guitar makes a serious visual statement.

The original molded brown Ovation hardshell case is included.
