Description

What a magnificent piece! Offered is this Private Stock version of the McCarty Archtop which was built in 2015. Between 1999 and 2002 PRS built a limited number of these deep-bodied hollowbody electrics and even fewer of these had the optional piezo electronics. The thinner "Hollowbody" models remain part of PRS' core production line to this day, but these deeper bodied model were discontinued because of cost, except for a rare Private Stock model now and again. This instrument is one of those rare examples.

This is a 22-fret, 25" scale, hollowbody instrument. It is 2-7/8" deep at the rims and 4" deep at the bridge, approximately 1" deeper than the Hollowbody models still being manufactured today. The Private Stock masterpiece has a top made from solid, carved figured Cedar and sides and back made of solid figured Maple. The neck is made of figured Mahogany and has PRS' Pattern neck shape with depth measurements of .88" at the 1st fret and .96" at the 12th. The fingerboard is made of very dark Brazilian Rosewood, as are the truss rod cover, headstock veneer and the tuner buttons. The fingerboard has a 1-11/16" nut, medium frets and stiking "Paradise" bird inlays which are made of Maple, Ovankol and Pink Ivory. The electronics include two 58/15 humbuckers along with piezo sensors embedded in the adjustable wrap-around bridge. The guitar is stunningly finished in natural / smokey blonde high gloss nitro lacquer. It has a total weight of just 6 pounds, 5 ounces!

There is no other instrument quite like this guitar. It's small outline, body depth and double cutaways make it unique in the guitar world. It is incredibly resonant and loud acoustically. It has an electric voice that is warm, woody and incredibly flexible thanks to its ability to blend its magnetic and piezo pickups. While initially designed primarily with the jazz musician in mind, many blues and rock artists are huge fans of this design. Please check out the brief sound sample of this guitar, as well as the video of jazz great Jostein Gulbrandsen playing this instrument.

Despite being five years old this lovely work of luthier art remains in near mint condition. It shows no flaws of any significance and the frets remain in near spotless condition. It comes in it's original leather Private Stock case along with the accessories and paperwork shown.

A new example of this guitar, if available to order, would require an investment approaching $15K and a significant wait. Get this incredible instrument for half that sum and it can be yours today. For guitar connoisseurs, it does not get much better than this PRS Private Stock Archtop. Make it yours!
