Description
Up for sale, a 1959 Precision Electronics tube amplifier head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Utilizing the original transformers and as much of the original circuit as possible, this amp has been revoiced and tweaked to perfection for a tone that will delight guitar players in a wide rage of genres. Officially model 30PA and designed for public address, this head is now capable of delivering some extremely saturated and rich distorted tones. Powered by a pair of brand new and freshly biased Tung Sol 5881 (6L6) small bottle power tubes, this amp is quick to overdrive, getting increasingly thicker and roaring with rich harmonics and gobs of low end. Roll back your volume control and the amp will clean up nicely, for a glassy and touch sensitive tone that has just the right amount of bite.

The mods to this circuit were done by ACME, the brainchild of Seattle-based boutique amp builder and guitar tech, Jesse Quitslund. The circuit mods are extremely clean and precise, retaining the original Mohawk transformers, which are particularly hefty and impressive for a 30 watt amp. The stock CTS pots date to 1959, and Mallory and Sprague capacitors were used in the revoicing of the preamp to make this head ideally suited for guitar. The amp boasts three inputs with independent volume controls (two 1/4" inputs, and one RCA) in addition to EQ controls for Treble and Bass. The EQ curves are fairly subtle, but at high volumes the frequencies they accentuate or cut are definitely noticeable. Other features include a variable ohms selector, two 1/4" outputs, and an additional direct out 1/4" for recording purposes.

The enclosure is undeniably cool, with the red "Precision Electronics" metal badge on the face of the amp, along with a bright red faceplate and original matching knobs. There are convenient carry handles on the sides of the head, and aside from some light surface rust and expected patina on the enclosure, the amp is in excellent shape.

This vintage tube amplifier head has been lovingly and meticulously modded by ACME for optimal tone, with fresh tubes, and quality work that's sure to hold up with rigorous use on stage or in the studio.
