This is our first Prenkert guitar in the shop, but we expect it won't be the last. Richard Prenkert's Flamenco Classical is a superb example of the form: Spanish Cedar neck, Cypress back and sides, Engelmann Spruce top, boldly voiced for lots of projection and quick decay. As a result, the upper registers are crisp, with little to no overtones, which yields a guitar capable of maintaining great articulation in fast passages that other guitars would render muddy or even discordant. The build is very lightweight, which translates into a great projection, but the Cypress back and sides give the Flamenco the dark, moody tone which is so famously associated with the Spanish genre. The middle registers have lots of body and expression, and the wide neck is perfectly proportioned for easy fretting with a 2 1/8” nut. Played with gusto, you won't have to worry about harming the Engelmann Spruce top, thanks to the dual “golpeadors,” or clear plastic tap plates. Quick and responsive, with a complex emotive tonality, this 2008 Prenkert Flamenco is ready to devour your entire repertoire.
