Description

Offered for your consideration is this fabulous 000-size cutaway instrument by Preston Thompson Guitars of Sisters, Oregon. Thompson and his small team build extremely high quality, vintage style guitars in very small quantities and their work is exquisite. While I am hesitant to compare one luthier's work to that of another, Thompson guitars remind me in a way of the very fine work of Michael Millard and the craftsmen at Froggy Bottom in that they are very light, beautifully constructed instruments which emit a very rich, chimey tone.

The Thompson guitar offered here is a masterpiece. It's specs include: a 000-sized body with Venetian cutaway option; straight grained and flawless Adirondack Red Spruce for the top; incredible shipwreck-salvaged Brazilian Rosewood for the back, sides, fingerboard, bridge, binding and headstock overlay; a 12-fret Mahogany neck with a very soft V shape; gorgeous Abalone rosette and fingerboard inlays; a 1.75" bone nut; a 25.4" string scale; and 2.31" string spacing.

A 000 12-fret with a cutaway may be the perfect guitar design. It is a small enough guitar to be very comfortable to play but big enough to have sufficient power. The 12-fret neck geometry neck places the sound hole in the sweet spot of the guitar's body for great tone and the cutaway gives you full access to the upper frets. This Thompson is particularly light (just 3 pounds, 13 ounces) and responsive to your input. While quite balanced in it's overall tone, it excels in it's mids and highs with lots of note separation and clarity and with nice overtones. It is a rich, lush sounding guitar indeed! The neck feels like a slightly smaller version of a Martin Modified V. It is currently setup with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" and 4/64" on the low and high E sides, respectively. This guitar plays like a dream.

If all this wasn't enough, this magnificent guitar is in near mint condition too! Just a few shirt button scratches are all you will find and you will have to look very carefully to find these. The frets show no observable wear and the guitar does not appear to have seen a flat pick. It comes in it's original Ameritage case, also in near mint condition.

With these tonewoods and options, this guitar sold for over $15K new. Get this near mint 2013 beauty for a 1/3 less. Just a fantastic acoustic that is sure to please even the most demanding guitarist. Make this exquisite piece yours!
