Description

R. Taylor guitars was a small and very low volume "custom shop" division within the Taylor Guitars empire which was operated for just a few short years until it was discontinued around 2011. The guitars that came out of this small operation were unique and very high quality one-off instruments that many of us love and miss to this day.

Offered here is a really special instrument from this short-lived enterprise, a Style 2 with Florentine Cutaway which was built in 2009. One of our best customers bought this guitar back in 2017 and recently traded it in on another instrument. This instrument has had just two owners since it's construction and it remains in superb condition.

This is a short scale (24-7/8"), 14-fret Grand Concert size instrument with a 15" wide lower bout and a depth of 4-3/16". Other specs for include: a 65' radius Sitka Spruce top with light, forward shifted top bracing and solid Koa edge kerfing for a freely vibrating sound board; premium AAA grade Koa for the back and sides; a Cocobolo and multi-color Abalone rosette; Cocobolo for the binding, purfling, backstrip, heelcap and wedge; a 24-7/8" scale, 14-fret, tropical Mahogany neck with R. Taylor's standard low profile carve; an Ebony fretboard with 15" radius, 1-3/4" bone nut and MOP side dots; an Ebony belly bridge with bone saddle and 2-3/16" string spacing; Koa for the headstock overlay and truss rod cover; and Gotoh 510 tuners with 1:21 ratio and Ebony buttons.

The Style 2 was designed primarily for fingerstyle players, but is large enough for flat pickers as well. It is voiced for clarity and definition and chords ring with rich complexity and overtones. Please check out the brief sound sample included below. With it's fast, low profile neck and great setup, it plays with the ease of an electric guitar, with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the high E side and 4/64" on the high E side.

This two-owner guitar is in near mint condition with virtually no flaws of any significance for me to point out. It appears to have never seen a flat pick and the frets show little observable wear. It comes in it's original Ameritage case with R. Taylor embroidered logo.

It is impossible to estimate the replacement cost of a guitar model that is no longer being built, but whatever the number, you can be sure that it would be substantially higher than the asking price of this exquisite, pre-loved instrument. A particularly special guitar, even by R. Taylor standards. Make it yours today!
