Description

R.Taylor guitars are not being built right now and may never be built again from what I hear. Those guitars currently in circulation are therefore more precious and prices have started to rise. You can still commission superb Taylor BTO guitars, but as good as these may be, they just don't seem to have the special elegance of the R. Taylor models.

Offered here is a superb R. Taylor Style 2 (Grand Concert size) guitar built in 2008. The Style 2 is a short scale (24-7/8"), 14-fret model with a 15" wide lower bout and a depth of 4-3/16". Other specs for this beauty include: a 65' radius Engleman Spruce top with light, forward shifted top bracing and solid Ebony edge kerfing for a freely vibrating sound board; a gorgeous set of premium red Cocobolo for the back and sides; an Ebony and multi-color Abalone rosette; a combination of Ebony and Rosewood for the binding, purfling, backstrip, heelcap and wedge; a 24-7/8" scale, 14-fret, tropical Mahogany neck with R. Taylor's standard low profile carve; an Ebony fretboard with 15" radius, 1-3/4" bone nut and MOP side dots; an Ebony belly bridge with bone saddle and 2-3/16" string spacing; an Ebony headstock overlay; Rosewood for the truss rod cover; and Vintage Bronze Gotoh 510 tuners with 1:21 ratios.

The Style 2 was designed primarily for fingerstyle players, but it's Grand Concert size gives it an excellent output for flat picking. Listen to my (crude) sound sample and I believe you will agree, this guitar has a clear voice with lots of note to note definition. Chords ring with rich complexity and overtones. It has a fast, low profile neck and great setup, with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the high E side and 4/64" on the high E side.

This beautiful guitar is in near mint condition with just a couple of tiny impressions just south of the Ebony belly bridge (see photo). I find no other cosmetic or functional issues of any significance. It appears to have never seen a flat pick and the frets show no observable wear. It comes in it's original Ameritage case with R.Taylor embroidered logo, the truss rod tool and paperwork.

In that R. Taylor guitar are not being built, is impossible to estimate the replacement cost of this guitar. Whatever the cost would be, you can be sure that it would be at least $2K higher than the price of this exquisite, pre-loved R.Taylor. Make it yours. You will be very glad you did!
