Description

Though there is no definitive attribution to Regal found on this guitar (no label, badge or stamp that says so) the heel shape, pick guard shape and other construction/design details suggest that this guitar was built by Regal. The pearloid headstock overlay is similar to those found on several brands of guitars built by Regal. This little guitar looks like it was built to compete with the Gibson made Kalamazoo KG-14...12 fret 00 in size with a very nice 'iced tea' colored sun burst finish. The back and sides appear to be solid birch or maple (not sure which) stained to look like mahogany. The top is very tight grained red spruce. The neck appears to be maple that is stained to look like mahogany, while the bridge is ebony and the fret board some sort of rosewood perhaps. The guitar appears to be original with the only addition being a small maple cap to the bridge plate in the area of the pin holes. The top is ladder braced, all top and back bracing is intact and secure. The back and sides are crack free and the finish very clean. The top has a center seam repair that is tight, level and stable, and there's strum wear and some dings to the finish that can be seen in the pics but there are no cracks or damage. The finish on the neck is clean. The neck has been reset and refretted, the neck has a substantial “V” profile and is very stiff so it is straight under tension. The nut width is 1 3/4” and the pin spacing is 2 3/16”. The guitar plays well with action set at 7/64” and 6/64” with some saddle showing to lower the action if desired. The tone is well suited to old time style finger picking (think Leon Redbone), nicely balanced, articulate and with an edgy, mahogany-like tone. Comes with a hardshell case. $1250
