Description

This pretty specimen is 1 of about 75 4005 hollow bodied Basses ever made over a period of 4 years from 1965 thru 1968, its original Fireglo finish has a great patina & shows a good amount of play time & wear, its carved maple top has nice grain & color, its 2-piece maple back has some nice “bubble” figuring & is complimented by its cool checkerboard binding, its fingerboard exhibits some wear & its crushed pearl inlays look excellent, its 2 original “Toaster” pickups are punchy & funky, its pot codes date to the 8th week of 1967, its single layer White pickgard is clean still sporting its Lucite thumb rest & 5 chrome capped knobs, its “GE” serial # date it to May 1967, it has a repaired area under the fingerboard by the nut, a small piece of wood repaired on the heel are & 2 tiny holes under the rhythm pickup on the top from an EBO pickup once in it (no routing done), this is surely the most played in & enjoyed of any original 4005 we have seen in the last 30 years showing it is a great user friendly vintage Rickenbacker at 1/2 the price of an all original example, it is in very good overall condition & quite a great bass in all respects, certainly worth the price of admission, comes with an beat original Black Tolex/Blue lined hard case.
