This early 1954 Rickenbacker Combo 800 is in its original “Natural Maple” finish! Rick factory manager Paul Barth designed the Combo 600 (single coil model) and Combo 800, and 1954 was their first year of production. The Combo 800 features a thick, German-carved maple body that has been mostly hollowed to allow for the electronics, and this cavity is accessible through a thin aluminum backplate that covers most of the back of the body. The real standout on this piece is Rickenbacker’s early dual coil “Horseshoe” pickup, which is actually a humbucking pickup launched before Gibson developed the traditional humbucker in 1957. Each switch connects with each coil for a unique and customizable playing experience. You don’t see these often, so here’s a great chance to take this super cool Rickenbacker home!
