1951 Rickenbacker Model B 8-String Black & Chromium

Used 1951 Rickenbacker Model B 8-String Lap Steel guitar serial number 2089171.

This lap steel is in very good condition. There are various nicks and marks about the body. There is some bakelite repair on the back of the headstock at the 1st tuning gear. The control knobs are non-original, the frets outlined in white and the “Vertical Blade” logo plate are featured.

Much is known and written about in the history of the model B, notably the addition of a tone control in 1937 and a change in the horseshoe pickup in 1947. The magnets were narrowed from 1.5” to 1.25”. Although it’s purely up to the individual, many are of the opinion that the narrower pickups sound better.

The guitar shaped Bakelite body features chrome decorative plates (which cover the weight reducing “chambers”) and a square Bakelite neck with white frets and dot inlays with a 2 ¼” nut and 22.5” scale length.

Weight is 9 lbs.

This less common 8 string version of the Model B lap steel sounds great with remarkable sustain and beautiful strong tone!
