Much buzz surrounds Ruokangas Unicorn Model.
After his various groundbreaking design of the Duke, as well as his other designs which cover just about every corner of the sonic spectrum.
The Finnish luthier came to the conclusion that there was something missing in his guitar building repertoire. Setting the bar high, Master luthier Juha ruokangas started rolling cameras and took us on a wonderful journey of guitar design and building.
He documented the process of the design of the Unicorn. An homage to one of his favorite guitar designs, the Legendary Gibson Les Paul.
Juha found key design flaws that have been ignored for decades, by players and decided to improve upon these flaws and add a few new twists.
The Key design flaws included unbalance (Bottom heavy), as well as the infamous weak headstock...we've all heard the stories, you brush the guitar up against the wall and your jaw drops because the headstock popped off.
Juha corrected this by adding Two maple strips under the headstock veneer for reinforcement.
Juha's choices of wood were the next step, instead of the standard maple/mahogany body, juha uses a Spanish Cedar body with an Arctic Birch (Thermo treated) top, this is Juha's signature combination.
Spanish Cedar is a much lighter wood, with a very robust tone and it is very durable. The unicorn is also perfectly balanced in terms of distribution of weight, not top or bottom heavy.
The Unicorn is shape is slightly different from a Les Paul, it's curves are a bit narrower than the LP, and it also employs the use of a Set neck and a 12 radius.
Juha didn't set out to create a LP copy...It is loosely based off the Les Paul, but different and better in every way.
